Shopping at the Market in Luxor, Egypt

30 May 2025 0 comments

There’s a kind of magic that hangs in the air in Luxor. You feel it the moment you step off the plane and into the golden sunlight. But if you want to experience the soul of this ancient city, there’s no better place than its bustling, colorful markets.

Known locally as souqs, the markets of Luxor are a sensory overload—in the best possible way. They’re a blend of ancient tradition and daily life, where locals and travelers alike gather under swaying canopies, the scent of spices drifting between rows of vibrant stalls.

The market is located very close to Luxor Temple. On the way to the market, you will pass one of our favorite bookstores, Aboudi Bookstore. If you’re wondering what to take home, the options are endless—and tempting. Some of our favorite things to grab in Luxor are spices, nuts, textiles, and handicrafts.

In Luxor, shopping isn’t just about buying things—it’s about stepping into a living tapestry of history, culture, and human connection. So take your time, follow your nose, listen to the stories, and maybe, just maybe, you’ll leave with more than souvenirs—you’ll take home a little piece of Egypt itself.
