The pyramid is one of the most well-known symbols of ancient Egypt, built for eternal protection for the royalty entombed in the chambers deep inside. During the timespan of 3,000 years starting in 2600 BCE, more than 75 pyramids were built in Egypt. The most well-known are called 'The Great Pyramids', located in the town of Giza. All three of the Great Pyramids were originally covered in alabaster, but only Khafre has the stone remaining on the top section. Truly one of the Wonders of the World!
