This beautiful Egyptian Winged Scarab amulet collectible is truly special. Unlike anything we have in our store. This vintage art piece was pulled from my personal collection. This winged scarab consists of three pieces: an actual scarab beetle and two separately made wings. The wings are not those of a beetle, but those of a bird, as is apparent by their shape and the indication of individual feathers. Scarabs such as these were used to fasten the winged scarab to the wrappings of a mummy. Winged scarabs, meant to guarantee the rebirth of the deceased, were very popular funerary amulets. The back of the scarab in inscribed with an interesting detail.
This statue is made from high-quality hand-carved soapstone. It was handcrafted by skilled Egyptian artisans. It was sourced by me in a private collection in Luxor, Egypt.
Size - 8 inches x 3.5 inches x about .75 inches thick
The ancient Egyptians believed that the scarab was the earthly manifestation of the god Khepri, and pushed the sun across the sky each day, only to disappear and magically re-appear the next morning. As such, it is a powerful amulet for self-creation, transformation, and re-birth. They were worn or carried by the living, and also buried with the dead to help them on their way to the afterlife. The base was usually inscribed with designs or hieroglyphs to form an impression seal.
