Egyptian Alabaster Votive or Incense Holder - 3"

Enjoy a beautiful yellowish marble pattern with white veins in this polished Egyptian 'alabaster' container. This can be used as a tealight holder or as a incense burner. The domed lid fits on a sturdy base. The stone is calcite, however it is most commonly called alabaster in the markets of Egypt.  The style and size may vary slightly as they are unique to the stone that is used. Made in Cairo, Egypt!

The size is about 3 inches tall on a 4 inch wide base.


Ancient pharaohs prized fine objects rendered in alabaster, deeming them indispensable on earth and in the afterlife. Oriental Alabaster which is a much harder stone, similar to marble, and which today is only used for machine-made products. Egyptologists refer to "Oriental alabaster" (marble) as alabaster, and it was this material that was extensively used by the Egyptians in sarcophagi, in the linings of tombs, in the walls and ceilings of temples, and in vases and sacrificial vessels.
