For the ancient Egyptians, the scarab was a sacred beetle that emerged from a ball of dung each morning and pushed the sun across the sky, disappearing each night only to magically reappear each morning. It is the earthly manifestation of the God Khepri, known as "he who came into being", because he created himself out of nothingness. The scarab is a symbol of rebirth, transformation and self-creation. Wings give the scarab far reaching power.Â
The lotus is a symbol of transformation and rebirth because it opens each day with the rising sun. The lotus also represents Lower (northern) Egypt because its shape resembles the Nile River Delta as it fans out to the Mediterranean Sea. Â
